Getting works ready for Taiwan show
After all the activity of Collectible, which I have to say was one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve participated in, due in part to the sheer quality of the works included and the loveliness and professionalism of the curators, Rosalind Davis and Annabel Tilley, all in all a brilliant experience. Â Since then I have been busily working on the two Motherchrist works for the touring exhibition in Taiwan. Â It’s going to be a two part show, starting at The Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum, Miaoli Country, from July 20th – September 25th 2012. Â http://wood.mlc.gov.tw/english/a/a01_01.asp
Then on to The Huanshan Creative Park, Taipei from October 5th – October 30th 2012. Â http://web.huashan1914.com/en/story.html
The selector of this show has been an equal delight to work with, feel very privileged indeed!
The crate arrived today to ship the works, it’s enormous and looks like a coffin bespoke for a giant!

Collectible
Next Tuesday is the opening night for Collectible. Â It’s going to be a very busy one with 67 artists exhibiting and with the dynamic duo of Rosalind Davis and Annabel Tilley curating and organising the event.
I will have two works on show – Metamorphosis, a double cast of a child’s plastic doll.  It’s an eerie reminder of childhood fears and of how our  fears can harness the power of things and people that are close to us.  The duality of projected innocence and the darkness that fear creates.
The second work is another cast piece. Â I have cast a small statue of the Virgin Mary in white chocolate, called Yummy Mummy. It’s a very direct challenge on the authenticity of the cult of the virgin, hailed so dear by catholics. Â On a visit to Lourdes as a child I was struck by the commodification of religion. Â Aged about 11, Â I remember queuing with my mum for holy water, plastic Virgin bottle in hand, I was nearly trampled under foot by eager crowds desperate to get their hands on the precious liquid. Â The abundance of market stalls and shops selling merchandise was extraordinary and seemed in stark contrast to the message of love and healing promised to the pilgrim.

Good week in my new studio at ASC in New Cross
After a successful move into my warm new studio at ASC in New Cross I have started work on a project for the up coming Collectibles show.  I’m really excited to be a part of this show which is being organised by the brilliant  Rosalind Davis and Annabel Tilley  who have launched their new collaboration ZAP – Zeitgeist Arts Projects  http://www.zeitgeistartsprojects.com/about.html
I’ve been dismantling a child’s plastic doll, getting ready to cast it. Â Here’s some pics

I’ve been madly busy making and now finishing the pieces. Â I had a hiccup last week when myself and fellow studio mates got evicted from our building with 48 hours notice. Â My gorgeous friend Kate Murdoch and my fab husband helped me move into a studio at A.P.T. that another very lovely woman has kindly lent me to finish the work. Â Phew.
I have a Facebook page with various details about the show, please take a look.

Lastly – I took part in a live Q&A for the Guardian today on the subject of how to carve out a career in the arts – it was a fun and informative panel discussion, here’s the link
